Originally established as an official kiln producing works for the lords of the Mōri domain, Hagi ware(Hagiyaki) gained nationwide recognition through the world of tea ceremony for its refined aesthetic imbued with wabi-sabi, the appreciation of beauty that is imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.
Near Nagato Yumoto, in the Fukagawa kiln area, five kilns remain, carrying on some 360 years of history alongside Miwa Kiln in Hagi City.
The artisans create not only tea bowls but also a wide variety of pieces, including sake cups and plates.
At the Japanese restaurant Unyū, dinner is served using tableware crafted by local artisans.
We invite you to enjoy contemporary Hagi ware—works that honor centuries of tradition while embracing continual innovation.
